Thrive in Black is a transformative mental wellness initiative created by Blk Women in Excellence (BWIE) to support the mental health and emotional well-being of Black women across Nova Scotia. This program recognizes the systemic barriers that Black women face when accessing mental health care — including racism, stigma, lack of culturally competent services, and historical trauma — and responds with bold, community-rooted solutions.

Over the course of several months, Thrive in Black will deliver a series of workshops, healing circles, and educational events focused on three key pillars:

1. Healing through Culture + Community
We create safe spaces for Black women to share, release, and reconnect through culturally grounded healing circles, creative expression, and intergenerational dialogue."Our healing is in our roots."
2. Empowerment through Financial + Emotional Literacy
Workshops designed to equip participants with the tools to lead with confidence, build real wealth, and navigate trauma with purpose.
"When we understand our worth, we change our world."

3. Access to Culturally Relevant Mental Health Resources
Partnering with Black-led organizations, businesses, therapists, and wellness practitioners to deliver care that understands and reflects our lived experience.
"Wellness looks like us, for us."

Each session is led by Black women practitioners, coaches, educators, and creatives who bring a deep understanding of the lived experiences of Black women in Nova Scotia.
Whether through a healing candle-making workshop, a trauma-informed group session, or a conversation about wealth and worth, Thrive in Black provides a safe, supportive, and culturally affirming space to reconnect, heal, and grow.

Why it Matters
Black women deserve care that sees us, understands us, and honors our journeys. Thrive in Black creates space for exactly that — and we're proud to be #ChangingTheWayPeopleThink about mental wellness, one experience at a time.
